The first Saturday in August turned out to be hot and sunny for our Wendover Canal walk. It was well attended with 16 including our walks leader Jenny Brice, and Eric her back marker. Unfortunately, due to the closure of the Wilstone reservoir rim for work by contractors, we had to rearrange the start area.
Due to this change in route, we walked past Wilstone Reservoir to bridge 4 and along to the cart track, near to our volunteer working party. Our chairman Clive Johnson gave the walkers a description of the tip problems and WCT’s way of resolving this, while keeping the price as low as possible. We retraced our way and walked around Whitehouses Pocket Park, covering the history of the original pumping station and updating the attendees on its current use as a park area for the community to enjoy. The bird boxes and bat home were highlighted giving details of the family camps which are hosted by WCT every year.
Next walk is scheduled for Saturday 3rd September at 10.30am from Meads at Wilstone. Below are photos of some of our walkers in the Pocket Park at Whitehouses, by Eric Rose.
